Stratford bus update: Hidden away in the Orbit planning documentation, within the Transport Assessment, are details of how the bus service around the Olympic Park might evolve over the next decade. The first changes are due next year, with the opening of Westfield's huge Stratford City shopping centre. It's proposed that four existing bus routes be extended to the new mega-mall, terminating on the opposite side of the railway to Stratford's existing bus station. These are the 97 and 241 (approaching via Angel Lane to the east), and the D8 and 339 (diverted up Warton Road to the west). I've stuck these routes on a summary map, should any East Enders be interested (although please be aware that none of this is yet confirmed).
Ten years later, a 2021 Legacy bus network is proposed. The Olympic Park should by then be a successful mix of residential, commercial and recreational space, and bus travel will be an important means of binding the community together. Again what follows is merely an aspirational proposition, and may not entirely come to pass. But this is what's in the planning documents (see map, page 14), summarised into a table for posterity. The last two columns show which buses might serve Stratford City and Stratford International respectively.
