I always make a point of noting when Crossrail gets delayed, so I ought to mention it's just been delayed again.
The latest delay is to "summer 2021" for the central section from Paddington to Abbey Wood, with full through services introduced "by mid-2022". The delay is so long that Bond Street and Whitechapel stations might even be finished in time, which we're supposed to see as good news but is actually doubly woeful.
I wrote a full post on timelines and delays in November, so won't revisit old ground. But I will offer you this visual representation of how the opening date of the central section has slipped... five times now.

We're currently at the star. It's the first quarter of 2020, reading down. The proposed opening date is in the second quarter of 2021, reading across.
An interesting observation is that, ever since the big delay was announced in mid-2018, the opening date has always been about eighteen months away. If it ever reduces to less than a year, maybe we'll be getting somewhere.
