This shop niggled me. It's called Poundworld and it's on High Road Leytonstone.
It actually says POUNDWORLD original but it can't be original because the first Poundworld opened in Wakefield in 1974, and anyway the chain never owned this particular shop before going into administration in 2018, and that isn't the proper Poundworld logo anyway because this is just some copycat independent trader who's been going since well before 2018, here's a photo from five years ago, and back then the big strapline was Most Items 95p and that's just ridiculous, you can't be a proper pound shop if things cost 95p, although I can see why they might have done that because there's a proper Poundland (not Poundworld) two doors up the road and 95p would have undercut a pound, not that a stack of plastic stools and boxes can possibly compete with the variety of stuff a proper Poundland has, and those plastic stools and boxes are still there but the big slogan's changed, it's now Most Items £1+ which for a start suggests inflation has kicked in but more importantly now fails to set an upper limit on prices because Most Items £1+ is meaningless, almost any price can be decribed as £1+, that plastic stool could cost £2 or £20 or £200 for all we know, the entire rationale for the shop being full of bargains has been negated, they could have renamed it PoundPlusWorld which at least would have been original, and then they've gone and ruined it further by claiming underneath that they sell house holds which they definitely don't, even with the unnecessary space removed, still on the bright side at least they haven't spelt Stationery as Stationary, although they have inexplicably used the plural, or what they think is the plural because normally that's also stationery, and I don't see many Leytonstone shoppers being tempted inside by the promise of stationeries that potentially cost more than one pound, let along a plastic stool.
