Tubewatch (4)Making efficiencies
TfL are in serious financial difficulties, partly because you haven't been travelling enough but also because lockdown throttled income and the previous Mayor signed all their funding away. I've already suggested that we could slim down the tube network by closing superfluous sections of various lines, but what other efficiencies could be introduced to maximise savings and boost growth? It's very much the Truss zeitgeist, so let's level down the tube to save the service.
1) Remove carriages during off-peak periods to avoid transporting lots of empty seats around. 2) Raise fares in line with Lincolnshire bus fares. 3) Play adverts on platforms rather than safety announcements. 4) Increase the Congestion Charge to £50 to encourage everyone to take the tube. 5) Let Amazon, IKEA, EE and/or Sky sponsor one of the lines - their choice. 6) After 10pm replace all tubes with night buses. 7) Charge 1% commission on every contactless transaction. 8) Stop ticket machines from taking cash - the poor can always take the bus. 9) Halve the number of trains heading out of town in the morning peak and into town in the evening peak. 10) Add a new Zone 0 enclosing the City of London and charge extra for passing through. 11) Stop the building works at Bank station, the bankers are never coming back. 12) Run replacement buses on Mondays and Fridays too, because they're the new weekend. 13) Build blocks of flats above the District line all the way from Barking to Upminster. 14) Charge a £1 premium for every journey on the world class Elizabeth line. 15) If there are stairs, turn off the escalators. 16) Sell off the naming rights to all the stations, every single one. 17) Bin the Bakerloo extension documents, it'll never open. 18) Close alternate stations - it's not much further to walk. 19) Invent driverless trains and save billions. 20) <your choice>
