I'd like to apologise for the ten posts I could have brought you today but haven't written.
1) Visit London have opened a temporary Ticket Shop in Covent Garden
I went in, which I suspect finally gave the two folk behind the counter something to do, but it's not about tourist information it's all about flogging stuff, mainly tickets to attractions and shows, and it looks hugely superfluous but it's not aimed at me.
2) St Paul's has a bespoke reflecting pool
I wrote about this in 2022 when it opened and only three of you felt moved to leave a comment. All that's changed now is that I've got a nice photo after dark.
3) I saw a poster saying "You're throwing away £1000 a year by wasting food"
...and I thought, no, I'm definitely not. I checked my outgoings and it turns out I've spent £1345 on food in the last year so I can't have thrown away £1000 of it. I then checked the smallprint on the advert and it turns out £1000 is the average for a 4-person household, not per person. It's not a great byline for a campaign funded by London's councils.
5) Ooh, a secret pond in the middle of Mitcham Common
It's not really secret, it's just out of the way, and a tad muddy on the approach at the moment.
6) The Next Train Indicators at Earl's Court are lovely
Aren't they just, but I only remembered to take a photo of the eastbound not the westbound so I can't knock up a full post out of that.
7) The Thames is deliberately drained until 22nd November
This is true, it happens for three weeks every autumn between Teddington Lock and Richmond Lock. Unfortunately that was a photo taken from Fulham Railway Bridge so all it's showing is a normal low tide.
8) Eltham Palace is fabulous
But it's closed on weekdays, and we were going somewhere else anyway.
9) So many Christmas decorations are now up
And it's only the first week of November. I saw the Battersea Power Station decorations being unloaded from a black van, and it turns out they're provided by the The Christmas Decorators, a nationwide franchise with £10m annual turnover who've also provided festive dazzle for The Ritz, Highgrove House, Booths supermarkets, Elgin town centre and Manger Square in Bethlehem. Don't think these places do it for themselves.
