45 Squared
For my long-term blog series this year I thought I'd visit London's squares.
It has hundreds but I only intend to write about 45 of them.
The reason for this is that London's squares are fantastically diverse - perhaps historic, perhaps formal, perhaps hidden, perhaps gorgeous, perhaps verdant, perhaps farflung, perhaps unsung, perhaps wretched, perhaps quirky, perhaps world famous, perhaps insignificant, perhaps cohesive, perhaps communal, perhaps mundane, perhaps amazing - so there should be lots to write about.
But the main reason is that 2025 is a square number.
And 2025 = 45 × 45 = 452 which is why I'm visiting 45 of them.
45 Squares in a series called 45 Squared in a square numbered year.
The opportunity is perfect.
It shouldn't be too intrusive, I only have to cover four a month.
Also I'll package a few together so it won't even be that frequent.
All I have to do now is pick 45 of them.
If you had any good suggestions, that'd be great.
n.b. I'm aware that a lot of Squares aren't actually square, more rectangular, but so long as it's called Square and approximately quadrilateral that's fine.
n.b. I won't be doing squares I've blogged about before in any detail, so Trafalgar Square is definitely excluded.
n.b. I might try visiting at least one in every London borough, or that might prove impractical.
n.b. I won't be finishing until December so feel free to keep adding suggestions here.
n.b. I'll kick off later this morning with what I think is London's largest square.
