Subservient transport news
TfL sent out nine press releases this week which I shall now present in a grovelling subservient way, just as the PR team intended.
π§ The Gallows Corner flyover has fully reopened to traffic following major refurbishment work. "Major strengthening and refurbishment work ensures the flyover can continue serving Londoners for years to come." Well done TfL, only twelve months late, what an excellent job you've done.
π‘ London Cable Car cabins will be illuminated in pink and blue on 14th October as TfL partners with the Footprints Baby Loss charity to host a special remembrance and awareness event for Baby Loss Awareness Week. "Families will also have the chance to ride the cable car for a quiet moment of reflection above the River Thames." Well done TfL, where better?
π½ Additional funding is being provided to enable the building of 53 more new toilet buildings for bus drivers over the next three years. "Six bus routes do not currently have toilet facilities at either terminus so TfL is accelerating plans to install toilet facilities at one terminus as a priority." Well done TfL, more Turdises on our streets.
π A new entrance at King's Cross St Pancras tube station is providing a new step-free access route on the south side of Euston Road. "The new entrance highlights the success of the public and private sectors working together to improve transport accessibility." Well done TfL, you've spent as little as possible here.
π² Santander Cycles are offering half-price Monthly Passes to mark World Car Free Day. "Customers can redeem the discount using the promotional code CFD26 from 00:00 on Tuesday 22 September until 23:59 on Sunday 27 September". Well done TfL, the Β£10 saving is for new subscribers only.
π A key milestone has been reached as TfL announces it intends to award the contract for upgrading South Kensington station to Costain. "The first work on site is planned to take place before the end of the year in a currently unoccupied retail unit at 34 Thurloe Street, and will last for approximately eight weeks." Well done TfL, only five years until this hopefully opens.
π The first consultation is now open on proposals for a new London Overground rail service linking Hendon and Hounslow. "The consultation gives residents, businesses and stakeholders the opportunity to learn more about the proposals and help shape the development of the scheme." Well done TfL, none of the questions are about what the line should be called.
π» The winners in TfL's hotly-contested annual gardening competition have been announced. "Barking Train Crew Accommodation were crowned the Best Seasoned entry," "Hammersmith Grove Road Service Control Centre were triumphant in the Cultivated Gardensβ―(depot) category." "Park Lane depot, Marble Arch was named Best Newcomer". Well done TfL, the public will never see several of these.
π Transport for London has unveiled a trailblazing publicly-owned bus company, along with plans for its first operational base at Park Royal Depot. "TfL has also confirmed that route 6 will be the first service to operate under the new name when 'Buses for London' launches in late 2027." Well done TfL, five publicly-owned bus routes by the end of 2028, that'll be gamechanging.
