Look, I just wondered. When is the DLR extension from Canning Town to Stratford International finally going to open? It was always going to open in "Autumn 2010", according to maps in stations, but then there were problems with signalling and it got delayed to 2011. TfL hired lots of new train staff, long since poised and ready, but then postponed again to "late Spring 2011". And now we're on for opening in "summer2011", thanks to problems with the contractors, or something. It's mysterious, that's for sure, especially when DLR projects have traditionally launched early rather than several months late. There's one school of thought, following the officialline, which says the new extension "will be ready for fare-paying passengers in July." I've seen another comment that "a staff member told me they had expected the DLR extension to open this weekend, but that it was cancelled at the last minute." And then there's the apparent news that "Duty roster has now been issued running to the 21st August, with no provision for Stratford International opening, so don't expect it to be open until at least September." What is going on here?
My money's on the DLR extension launching just before Westfield (which opens on 13th September), so that Boris can announce the timely opening of a splendiferous new transport link into Stratford's stupendous new shopping centre. That's my wholly unfounded theory. But you'll probably think differently. So I thought I'd run a Stratford International DLR Sweepstake.
