At Mile End station, you may remember, the "next train indicators" have been installed by cretins. Relocated from the centre of each platform to the far end, then hidden behind signs, the displays are entirely unreadable for the majority of passengers changing trains cross-platform.
So you'd think the recent addition of automated "next train" announcements would be reason to rejoice. Alas not so, because the disembodied voice on platform 1 has been mistimed and triggers too late. Every time. Like this...
Platform 1, Mile End station, Central line, westbound The next Central line train rushes into the platform and slows down. "Ladies and gentlemen, the next train will be a Central line train to West Ruislip" The train stops. The doors open. "Ladies and gentlemen, please stand behind the yellow line as the train approaches" Customers pour off the train onto the platform. Customers pour off the platform onto the train. "Please use the full length of the platform and let customers off the train first" But everyone is already aboard. The train prepares to depart.
