The Bluebell Railway
East Grinstead - Sheffield Park

Well, that was a splendid day out. An 11 mile run along Britain's first preserved steam railway, puffing through open countryside to the east of the Brighton mainline. The Bluebell Railway was finally connected to the rest of the main rail network at East Grinstead last year, making it much easier to reach from London. It has a couple of lovely restored stations, often seen in TV series and films. At the far end there's a National Trust garden, a short walk away. And yes, at this time of year there are indeed bluebells on the banks for much of the way along the line. So, a splendid day out.
