Bow bus news: As part of a major rejig of bus routes on the Isle of Dogs, plans are afoot to swap over the northern halves of routes 108 and D8. If TfL's latest consultation is ratified, the 108 will emerge from the Blackwall Tunnel and then follow the backstreets from All Saints to Bow Church DLR, while the D8 will follow the 108's former route along the dual carriageway to the Bow Roundabout. From here the swap will continue, with the D8 looping round Bromley High Street before terminating at Stratford Bus Station while the 108 nips off into the Olympic Park to end on the Westfield side of the tracks. The swap is being made so that both routes can benefit from larger buses, specifically so that the D8 no longer passes beneath the low bridge on Carpenters Road so can be run with double deckers, while the 108 gets longer single deckers to boost capacity. Two particular consequences are that the D8 will no longer shadow the DLR quite so closely (providing alternative linkage elsewhere), while the 108 will take slower roads to Stratford (unless it's rush hour in which case it'll avoid the A12 jams). Many of the other supposed benefits being bandied about by TfL in the consultation are specious, or are being added to one route at the expense of the other. But expect the swapover to take place in the early autumn when both contracts are renewed, and keep your fingers crossed that somebody manages to swap the tiles at Bus Stop M without making a complete pig's ear.
