Orbitalgeek (2) A brief Overground history
2007: Official launch of Overground services, including Stratford-Richmond/Clapham Junction, Euston to Watford and Gospel Oak to Barking. East London Line closed for redevelopment.
2008: Shepherd's Bush station opened.
2009: Imperial Wharf station opened. New Class 378 trains introduced.
2010: New bridge at Shoreditch allows reopening of East London Line from Dalston Junction to New Cross/Crystal Palace/West Croydon.
2011: Extension from Dalston Junction to Highbury & Islington.
2012: Former South London Line incorporated from Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction.
2014: Length of (most) trains increases from four carriages to five.
2015: Addition of services from Liverpool Street to Chingford, Enfield and Cheshunt, plus the Romford to Upminster shuttle.
2016: Overground operator changes from LOROL to Arriva Rail London.
2017: Night Overground begins between Dalston Junction and New Cross Gate.
2018: Night Overground extends to Highbury & Islington. Gospel Oak to Barking electrified.
2019: Greenford to West Ealing added?
2021: Extension to Barking Riverside?
2025: Two new stations at Old Oak Common?
