Legible London wayfinding panels first appeared in 2007.
You've probably seen several, they're everywhere now.
Here's one, except the map's been smashed.

I've seen a lot more smashed pillars recently.
Sometimes they're only smashed on one side, sometimes both.
The enamel doesn't smash, only the glass that covers the maps.
It's not easy to smash, but evidently doable.

Is the increased smashedness because people are being more violent?
Or is it just because nobody comes round and mends them any more?
Maybe the damage isn't being reported so reliably.
Or maybe there's a lack of funds for repairs.
Whatever, it's a shame to see these excellent resources in decline.
